Callaway has really brought back the Big Bertha family – in addition last year’s Big Bertha and Big Bertha Alpha drivers, they’ve also recently announced the Big Bertha irons and hybrids as well as the lightweight V-Series line of drivers. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve seen photos of the 2015 Big Bertha Alpha 815 and Big Bertha Alpha 815 Double Black Diamond drivers and today, we get an official announcement from Callaway!
The Big Bertha Alpha 815 driver, as Callaway calls it, is a new category of driver. The driver has a low center of gravity with increased MOI and more ball speed with a breakthrough R.MOTO Face and multi-material construction. The R.MOTO face removes weight from the face via internal ribs to control the motion of the face and lower the CG. These internal ribs connect the sole to the face.
The Gravity Core from last year continues into 2015, which pushes the center of gravity even lower, increasing forgiveness and optimizing ball speed at impact. Adjustability is also offered through Callaway’s 8 way OptiFit system as well as 7g and 1g weights in the head. Ultimately, the Big Bertha Alpha 815 driver is a low spinning, forgiving driver that provides distance.
The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 Double Black Diamond driver is for experts only – double black diamond similar to the ski or snowboarding slopes that are for skilled athletes only. With this driver, it is extremely low spinning and for players who hit the centre of the club face the majority of the time. Again, it will feature the R.MOTO face technology, a taller gravity core that will give high clubhead speed players more distance off the tee and adjustability through the OptiFit system. The clubhead is more compact and features a deeper face and tapered crown. This driver gives the golfer less forgiveness, but much more workability compared to the Big Bertha Alpha 815.
These two new drivers certainly look mean – it reminds us of Iron Man! How much of an improvement they are on last year’s models though, we will have to see! You can be sure we’ll be checking them out when they’re released. What do you think of these new drivers from Callaway? Leave a comment below and let us know! Both drivers will be offered with a multitude of custom shaft options for around $449 and will be available November 14, 2014.
