Major Moments: Ryder Cup Captains

The captains of the Ryder Cup teams are selected well in advance of the tournament. This year at Gleneagles in Scotland, Tom Watson and Paul McGinley have been honoured with the positions of leading their respective country to victory in the Ryder Cup! Continuing on with the Major Moment series from Golf Digest, its editors discuss the importance of the role and whether it’s an essential position or an overrated one.

With the recent dominance in the Ryder Cup by Team Europe, Team USA’s Captain Tom Watson has a tough task ahead of him as he tries to lead his team to victory on foreign soil. On paper, the European team is stacked and the favourite to win it all, with the likes of world number one golfer Rory McIlroy on the team.
