Nike Golf: Vapor Flex Driver

Earlier in August, Nike Golf hosted a large media announcement at Liberty National Golf Club with Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Jimmy Fallon to introduce the all new Nike Golf Vapor Irons, based on the 2-iron MM Proto Irons that Rory used during his victory at The Open Championship. Nike Golf definitely takes advantage of having some of the best players in golf help test their latest equipment and that stays the same with the new Vapor Driver. Rory McIlroy has been seen testing this new driver at the Gleneagles driving range as he prepares for this week’s Ryder Cup.

The Vapor Irons aim to revolutionize the blade and feature a bright, neon yellow swoosh (volt). This colourway will definitely be a theme throughout next year’s equipment by Nike Golf. Today, we get to take a look at the brand new Nike Golf Vapor Flex Driver with Modern Golf. This Vapor Flex Driver should be one of four (possibly three) models that will be available for 2015. Expectations are that there will be a Vapor Pro model as well as two to three other iterations. We’ve featured Modern Golf Toronto and Vancouver before – they specialize in brand agnostic club fitting which we were fortunate to experience (see part one and part two).

The Vapor Flex Driver will feature cavity backed technology and feature the brand new flex flight module. This Flex Flight Module, conceptually, is very similar to the Callaway Golf Gravity Core. But rather than moving the centre of gravity of the driver vertically, the Flex Flight Module (a 15 gram weight) moves the centre of gravity more forward or backward 2 millimetres. Flexloft 2.0 is also included to offer 4 degrees of adjustability in loft with a reduction of weight from the original flexloft by 5.5 grams.

Carbon Reinforced RZN is also used as well as the return of the Compression Channel, that you may be familiar with in some of Nike’s VR Pro series of equipment. The Compression Channel is something Tiger Woods probably advocated for, as he liked to tee the ball lower at times while still having the ability to shape his shots, but not lose any ball speed or distance. No details are available yet on pricing or release date, but it’s definitely a very unique driver with a lot of new technology.
