The Taylormade Tour Preferred line of clubs includes the CB, MC and MB irons as well as a line of wedges. They are some of the best clubs in the market right now, particularly the wedges, which are a huge improvement on previous generations of wedges by Taylormade. We had an opportunity to test them during our fitting session at the Taylormade Tuned Performance Centre in Vancouver. This improvement was made possible by Clay Long, a legend in the club-making industry. He designed and built Jack Nicklaus’ clubs for 16 years and also served as Vice president of R&D of Macgregor Golf Co., chief designer to Progroup and The Arnold Palmer Co., Vice President of R&D at Cobra Golf Co., and Vice President of Golf Club Development for Acushnet Co.
Long looked through wedge history to design the 2014 Tour Preferred wedges. He looked into the bags of today’s best Tour pros to learn why they had their wedges ground the way they did and learned their preferences. By doing so, he put all this knowledge together to create the Tour Preferred and Tour Preferred ATV wedges. Below, we feature the Taylormade Tour Preferred Series and Clay Long as he talks about the wedge development process are more! It’s a 10 part series, but only parts one to six have been released so far – take a look!
