Ryder Cup 2014: Team Europe

Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley

The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles is a little over three weeks away and today, Captain Paul McGinley finalized his twelve man team with three Captain’s Picks. Rounding out the automatic nine qualifiers are hometown favourite Stephen Gallacher, Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter and Ryder Cup warhorse (his ninth appearance), Lee Westwod.

Captain McGinley said it came down to a group of five – the selected three as well as Luke Donald and Francesco Molinari. Gallacher is a Ryder Cup rookie, however, he’s a Scotsman playing a Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in his home country and, in fact, not very far from where he grew up and he’s had good results playing at the Ryder Cup course. Poulter was the heart and soul of the 2012 team, leading the charge at the Miracle at Medinah – it was almost a given he would be on the team. Lastly, Westwood has played very well as of late, especially in August, to push his case for a Captain’s pick.

We’ll now wait for Captain Tom Watson to make his selections tonight at 7:00PM in New York City. The front runners to join the team are Hunter Mahan, Chris Kirk, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker. Which three do you think will make the team? Leave a comment and let us know!
