The future and growth/decline of the sport of golf has been a hot topic lately. With ever shorter product cycles, bad weather that shortens golf seasons and a diminishing interest in the sport within the USA, it feels like golf is on the downswing. However, in many other parts of the world, golf is actually a booming industry.
We’ve recently heard Nike Golf President Cindy Davis and Tiger Woods touch on this topic. Tiger brought up a great point that golf can be made “cool” if younger kids can see their favourite athletes from other sports succeeding in the game such as NBA players (Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan), NHL players (PK Subban, TJ Oshie), tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, Late Night Show host Jimmy Fallon and actor Samuel L. Jackson.
The new youth in the game should also be very refreshing as they’re making the game more competitive than ever, including Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, who are both having pretty great seasons in 2014. Watch the video above and hear the interesting discussion about the sport we love.
