Mizuno Golf JPX-850

Mizuno Golf JPX-850

Mizuno Golf is best known for their Grain Flow Forging process and its trademark soft feeling irons. However, there are limitations to forging and after six years of development, Mizuno has discovered a breakthrough that will be applied to its new JPX-850 irons!

Generally, traditional forged irons have limitations in terms of distance in comparison to the new technology of “hotter” clubfaces in other clubs. Without sacrificing the feel of a forged iron, Mizuno was able to ingrain Boron with 1025 steel to make this new material that is 30% stronger than its traditional 1025E steel billets – this allows for a thinner face and extreme ball speeds. The result is an iron that combines Grain Flow Forged precision and feel with the ball speeds of a modern distance iron. Watch the video above to find out more about the Boron Forged JPX-850 iron.

The thinner boron face is strategically reinforced by a Power Frame Cavity – this allows the face to flex over a wider area. By increasing the flexible portion of the clubface, it makes the clubface play effectively larger without increasing its size, giving players a smaller clubhead to look down at. The Power Frame Cavity ensures that ball speeds are consistently high across the entire clubface and that high COR is not created at the expense of feel or control.

In addition to the JPX-850 irons, Mizuno Golf is also introducing the new JPX-850 hybrids, fairway woods and driver. With the hybrids and fairway woods, the design utilizes a Shock Wave sole. This allows the entire club head to contract and expand on impact, delivering an additional energy source to the clubface. This additional mass also lowers the head’s centre of gravity, maintaining high ball speeds directly off the turf. There is a 4 degree range of loft adjustment within each fairway head (3/5/7) through the use of Mizuno’s Quick Switch shaft adjustability.

During The Open Championship, Mizuno Golf introduced their new 2015 MP-series of irons including the MP-15, MP-H5 and MP-T5 wedges. But they also teased the public with images of their new JPX-850 driver. In 2007, Mizuno first introduced a sliding weight system called Fast Track. This enabled a golfer to alter a driver’s draw/fade tendency. This technology has now evolved to allow golfers to customize spin rates and launch angles as well, helping all swing sweeds achieve maximum possible total yardage.

Aesthetically, the JPX-850 driver looks great with it’s piercing, Mizuno blue crown. It uses twin 8-gram weights located on either the central sliding rail or two lateral slots. The driver features 10 unique settings, giving players of all levels the ability to dial in their perfect launch and spin. In addition to weight adjustability, the Mizuno Quick Switch shaft release system allows a golfer to change their loft from 7.5 to 11.5 within one club head. Watch the video above to find out more!
