The last Major Championship of 2014 has wrapped up and what a PGA Championship it was! Champion Golfer of the Year and WGC-Bridgestone Invitation champion Rory McIlroy posted a 3-under 68 to capture his fourth career Major and his third victory in a row this season! In the process, Rory becomes the third youngest to win four career majors in the modern era among many other historical statistics.
The fourth round got off to a late start due to a weather delay but the leaderboard was packed on the weekend at Valhalla Golf Club. Although Rory McIlroy had the lead going into the fourth round, that was quickly erased and there were as many as five players tied at 15-under at one point. In the back nine, Rory showed his maturity and growth as a player as he closed out the victory, fending off Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler. Rory McIlory has played some incredible golf the last few weeks and as mentioned before, this is certainly the beginning of a new era!
And perhaps it was a bit of foreshadowing on Rory’s part, but a few months ago at the beginning of the 2014 season, he said that his goal this year was to try to win two Major Championships in an attempt to keep his “a Major per year” pace – goal accomplished! Congrats again, Rory, and make sure you watch the video below!
