Back at the end of June, we featured the Taylormade Tour Preferred UDI, or Ultimate Driving Iron. Since then, we’ve taken a two week trip to the United Kingdom visiting The Home of Golf in St. Andrews and even round 1 of The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, won by Rory McIlroy.
In preparation for The Open Championship as well as the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Taylormade staff players decided to put a tool in their bags that would deliver the distance and playability of a Rescue, but the accuracy and workability of an iron. Something they could hit long off the tee and from the fairway that gave them confidence without sacrificing control. With this request came the Tour Preferred UDI, or Ultimate Driving Iron.
The UDI is available in 1, 2 and 3 irons (16, 18, 20 degrees) and features a hollow construction with a 450 Carpenter steel face and milled score lines for a low CG and high ball speed. The Speed Pocket is also featured and allows the face to flex more on low face shots. A KBS Tour C-Taper Lite shaft provides further stability and control in a lighter weight steel shaft. An advanced sound dampening system is also used to create better feel and sound for players. The UDI is available and retails for $199.99.
