The latest equipment release from Callaway Golf involves an addition to the Big Bertha family. Today, Callaway has officially announced the Big Bertha V-Series driver and fairway woods. The “V” stands for Velocity and it is a theme for these two clubs – distance from aggressive speed and velocity and forgiveness in a lightweight design. Find out more in the latest episode of Callaway Talks featuring Dr. Alan Hocknell and Harry Arnett as they talk clubhead speed and the genesis of the new Big Bertha V-Series driver and fairway woods.
The V-Series driver will be higher lofted, coming in 9, 10.5 and 13 degrees of loft in a 460CC clubhead. Lighter shafts at 45.5 inches will be used with the overall weight of the driver ranging from 290 to 295 grams. Some features of this new driver include Speed Optimized Technology. The lightweight design allows a golfer to create more clubhead speed, which creates more ball speed and helps you hit the ball longer. Aerodynamic shaping lowers drag through the entire swing as well and the forged composite material in the crown also helps to bring weight down.
Hyper Speed Face technology delivers higher ball speeds across the face for consistency. OptiFit Technology is an adjustable hosel that allows a golfer to choose from a combination of 8 different lofts (-1, S, +1, +2) and lie angles (draw or neutral) to find your optimized trajectory and shot shape. Finally, a Performance Lightweight Premium Shaft is one more way Callaway Golf ensures speed in their new V-Series driver. An ultra lightweight Mitsubishi Bassara Shaft in the 10.5 and 13.5 degree heads and a Fujikura Motore Speeder 565 in the 9 degree heads promote speed!
The V-Series Fairway Woods feature similar technology as the Driver. Speed Optimized Technology, a Hyper Speed Face and more. But it also features a Modern Warbird Soleplate to increased versatility from everywhere. This design is an update that builds off of one of the most versatile fairway woods from Callaway. Furthermore, a High Launch Design helps golfers get the ball up in the air for improved distance, especially when the impact is low on the clubface. This higher launch helps to create a very forgiving fairway wood. Finally, Callaway Golf will offer the Special Heavenwood Option, a unique configuration to provide more consistent distance and tighter dispersion at 20.5 degrees of loft.
Pre-orders for the V-Series line of equipment starts on August 8th, 2014, and will hit shelves on August 22nd, 2014. The costs will be $399 and $249 for the driver and fairway woods, respectively. In the meantime, watch the video above and visit the Callaway Golf website to find out more!
