Mizuno Golf: MP-15, MP-H5 and MP-T5

Mizuno Golf MP-15

During The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) Golf Club, Mizuno Golf teased the public with photos of their equipment line up for 2015. It included the new MP-15 irons, MP-H5 irons, MP-T5 wedges and the JPX-850 driver. Today, they’ve released official testing videos from April 2014 featuring Luke Donald – watch the videos to hear the philosophy and design of each iron with Chris Voshall as well as feedback from one of the most beautiful swings in golf.

The new MP-15 irons with Ti Muscle is made through the Grain Flow Forging process and blends the very best of the MP-64 and MP-59. At address, it has the classic Mizuno MP shape – compact with clean lines, designed to enhance both feel and workability. With the Ti Muscle technology, there is added forgiveness for the player while still keeping all that a player looks for in an MP iron. Titanium is directly forged into the steel clubhead to create one piece – essentially, you get the playability of a cavity iron, but the feel of a muscleback iron. Watch the video above to hear from Luke Donald himself!

Next, Chris Voshall and Luke Donald test out the new MP-H5 iron. The MP-H5 irons have a hollow construction, allowing players to hit the ball higher while still keeping the spin low. The hollow construction transitions from the longer irons to the shorter irons going from a full hollow design to a half hollow design. You will find many players putting a 2- or 3- iron in the MP-H5 in play (particularly at The Open) with a mixed bag combination with other MP irons. It is still a MP golf club, but is slightly thicker than the MP-15 and MP-64, while still retaining a classic player’s shape. These are perfect irons that can suit players of all different levels.

Lastly, we have the new MP-T5 wedges that deliver the touch and precision of Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forging construction. This will definitely benefit players around the greens and give them the same feel that they experience with forged irons. Luke Donald has one of the best short games in golf and is an invaluable asset when it comes to feedback and influence on new wedge designs (see his bunker slow motion swing). Grooves are milled after the wedges have been forged and loft specific grooves are taken into account as well (higher lofted wedges have wider, shallower grooves). For the MP-T5, Mizuno will offer 25 combinations of loft and bounce with two sole types to suit varying techniques and turf conditions.

Enjoy the videos above and find out more about the upcoming equipment for Mizuno Golf. They got us drooling! If you’re in the market for a new set of irons, you might want to hold off until these are released to the public! In the meantime, if you haven’t watched enough of Luke Donald, be sure to check out his Masterclass from the BMW PGA Championship.
