During the week of The Open Championship, Mizuno Golf officially released photos of their fall 2014 equipment line up including the new JPX-850 driver, MP-15 irons, MP-H5 irons and the MP-T5 wedges. Although they’ve released photos, official specifications will not be released until later.
Mizuno Golf makes some of the best irons in the world using their Grain Flow Forging process. Last year, they introduced the beautiful MP-54 and MP-4 irons and most recently in Japan, the Mizuno Pro TN-87 irons. For fall 2014, they have introduced the MP-15 irons. From the photos, it seems that the MP-15’s will utilize Ti Muscle Technology, similar to the MP-59’s, which provides cavity like forgiveness in a player’s half cavity design
Also released during The Open Championship was the MP-H5 irons. From the photos, they seem to have a thicker top line and sole compared to the MP-15’s. With the previous generation, the MP-H4, the irons offered the most forgiveness and playability ever introduced to the better player’s market. The MP-H4 seamlessly blended iron type hybrid long irons with half-cavity scoring irons. We can imagine the MP-H5 irons to build upon the foundation of the MP-H4.
Since none of the official specifications for these clubs are released yet, we only have photos to go by. The next set of new equipment released by Mizuno Golf are the MP-T5 wedges. You can expect the wedge to feature the Tour Proven Teardrop head shape in Satin Chrome and Black Carbon finishes. Quad Cut Grooves were featured in the MP-T4 wedges, so we’ll see if there is an improvement in that technology or if there is a complete change.
Lastly, Mizuno Golf released photos of the JPX-850 driver in a bold Mizuno Blue, which we saw Luke Donald testing earlier in the year at The Players Championship. The latest photos really give us a clear look at what technology we can expect in Mizuno’s upcoming driver. The driver features “Fast Track Technology,” which we assume is meant for moving the centre of gravity of the driver more forward or backwards. Draw and fade bias can also be customized by the weight ports on the sole. A closer look at the hosel also reveals loft and face angle adjustability.
It should be an exciting couple of months as we prepare for the release of these new Mizuno products! As more specifications and information is released, be sure to come back and find out more!
