The sport of golf has evolved so much over the past couple of years. Golfers have become amazing athletes with rigorous fitness routines to maximize their game. In addition to that, on-course style has also evolved with players taking more risks with their fashion choices to better represent their personality – a good example being Rickie Fowler and Ryo Ishikawa.
Golf companies are also taking notice of this trend and offering more customizable equipment and bolder, brighter colours for their apparel. One of these companies include Bunker Mentality of the United Kingdom. Bunker Mentality is a brand devoted to golf and dedicated to style in golf clothing, with the slogan of “Modern British Golf.” They recognize the heritage and tradition of the sport while creating new traditions and future classics in the apparel industry. Being based in the UK, their clothing will have a “Euro Fit,” meaning clothes will be much have a more fitted and snug look. They offer a variety of jackets, knitwear, polo shirts, t-shirts, pants, shorts, hats and accessories.
You’ll notice that Bunker Mentality features bright, bold colours and patterns. But their apparel is also created for performance, not just fashion. We’ve recently put their apparel to the test through a couple rounds of golf and they are extremely comfortable. The two polos we wore (CMAX GOLFADELIC POLO and TOUR STRIPES PLAYA POLO) feature 100% Polyester Drytech Pique and 100% double mercerised Cotton. The former has very good moisture wicking properties and kept us cool and dry throughout our rounds whereas the latter holds more moisture and is a little thicker. It would be perfect for cooler, autumn days.
The polos were paired with two shorts and a pair of pants (SUPAG SHORTS, BLUE FINE STRIPE GOLF SHORT; SUB 65 GOLF TROUSERS) that are made from a combination of cotton and elastane. The styling of the bottoms are great for on and off the golf course – we’ve found ourselves wearing them equally for golf or for a day out casually. Be aware though that because they do have a “Euro Fit,” you may have to size up if you decide to purchase these bottoms! We sized up one inch and paired the bottoms up with the BUNKER CREST BELT, a leather belt with one of the sharpest looking buckles we’ve seen!
Our favourite offering from Bunker Mentality is definitely their jackets. They make some great jackets that not only keep you warm, but also keep you dry. We tested their PLAYA CREST JACKET that is 85% polyester and 15% Cotton. In chilly weather, it does a great job keeping a golfer warm and for days when it’s wet, the jacket keeps you dry with water resistance. Rain drops seem to just bead off the jacket and wick away!
The detail of the Playa Crest Jacket features a quilted stitch detail woven front panel with the Bunker Crest embroidery, similar to the Bunker Crest Belt. Our favourite detail is of the British Flag on the back of the jacket as well as the Bunker zip puller on the zippers. We even took this jacket with us on our recent trip to the United Kingdom and to the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club!
