Driving irons are nothing new in the golf club industry – this week, Taylormade joins the party by introducing the UDI, or Ultimate Driving Iron. They are working with their players who will be playing The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool and will want a driving/utility iron in the bag.
A club like this will give golfers more control than a fairway wood or hybrid and more distance than a traditional long iron. From the photos released by Taylormade, the UDI seems to be an extension of the Tour Preferred family of irons (CB or MC) and features the speed pocket technology as well as a thicker top line. Other than that, details are sparse and will be released once Taylormade receives more concrete feedback. However, it has been put into play by Justin Rose and Davis Love III for this week’s Quicken Loans National at Congressional! We can’t wait to find out more about this club!
