With the 114th US Open returning to Pinehurst, much of the spotlight naturally shifts to Phil Mickelson who nearly won the tournament 15 years ago in 1999. Of course, the famous victory by the late Payne Stewart remains at the forefront of everyone’s minds and who can forget the image of Payne telling Phil that he’s going to be a father!
Phil has since gone on to have quite the career since that day in 1999 and has built up his reputation with fans and fellow golfers with his go-for-broke style! Many of us will be cheering Phil on this week as he aims to complete his career Grand Slam with an US Open victory, joining the likes of Sarazan, Hogan, Nicklaus, Player and Woods to be the only players to accomplish that feat!
