Graeme McDowell on Pinehurst No. 2

We are two weeks away from the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst No.2 and more players are visiting the grounds to sneak in a look at the Major Championship venue! Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk have all been to Pinehurst already and with the US Women’s Open the week after the Men’s tournament, Lydia Ko also paid a visit to the historic golf course. Recently, 2010 US Open Champion Graeme McDowell returns to the site of where he made his first cut in a Major Championship in 2005 to check out the restored golf course.

Coore & Crenshaw was responsible for the restoration of Pinehurst No.2 and its goal was to restore the golf course to its original intent and character, both visually and strategically. As Graeme found out today, this isn’t your stereotypical US Open as the course feels more like the British Open around the greens. However, he loves the new sight lines and how everything seems to frame up with the new native area and wire grass areas. The golf course is definitely difficult and as Graeme states, it will certainly provide its share of challenges to the Tour pros in two weeks’ time!
