Going into the final day of the Players Championship, Martin Kaymer and 20 year old Jordan Spieth were tied for the lead. Although Jordan started strong just like he did at the Masters, he faltered with a final round 74 to fall out of contention. Martin, on the other hand, was playing well but he was not without challengers. Jim Furyk shot up the leaderboard with a final round 66 and the pressure was on!
The final round of the Players Championship was shortly halted by a 90 minute rain delay. This may have affected Martin Kaymer as he nearly blew a three-shot lead after the stoppage. Going into the famed 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, Martin’s lead was down to one and had a 28 foot putt to save par to maintain that lead.
Martin made the incredible putt that you need to see to believe and went on to make a 3 foot par putt in the dark on the 18th to seal the victory! This was Martin’s first victory since the end of 2012 and winning the Players on Mother’s Day was definitely not lost on him. Congratulations on your victory, Martin and hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day!
