The unofficial “fifth Major” of the PGA Tour season begins this week at TPC Sawgrass – The Players Championship. But the course was designed with the spectators in mind, making sure all the fans have the best views to watch everything that goes on on the golf course. The course is famous for it’s diabolical 17th hole, the island green par-3 that averages 137 yards, but the story before the tournament this week is definitely the official golf world rankings. With the world number 1 and defending champion, Tiger Woods, sidelined indefinitely after back surgery, there are several players who could replace him at the top of the sport.
There are several players that have a chance at number 1 this week – Adam Scott will have to finish in the top 16 (or he can withdraw and not even play!); Henrik Stenson will have to finish in the top six; Bubba Watson has to finish second alone; or Matt Kuchar has to win. It should be a great tournament and we’ll see if any of these players can withstand the pressure or whether the 17th hole will get the best of them!
