Taylormade SLDR Irons

Taylormade Golf SLDR irons

Taylormade is at it again – yesterday, they introduced their latest line of irons, the SLDR Irons. In the past year, this is the fifth set of irons that we remember (Speedblades, Tour Preferred CB, MC and MB) and will be offered as a set the that bridges the gap (even though we feel the transition is quite good already!) between the Speedblade Irons and Tour Preferred CB irons.

The SLDR irons features a clubhead with a classic shape and size. The main goal was to create an iron with improved sound and solid feel. It also includes Taylormade’s Speed Pocket technology as well as their new ThruSlot technology which they say will promote a higher ball flight, longer carry and more consistent gapping between irons, something that golfers have expressed concerns about. The ThruSlot extends all the way through the bottom cavity, and works in conjunction with the ultra-thin clubface and deep undercut to promote tremendous face-flex at impact – a compliant polymer fills the opening to enhance feel and prevent debris from filling the slot.

The 3 to 7 irons have the speed pocket whereas the 8 and 9 irons with all wedges have a solid sole. Previous irons that had speed pocket technology have a “hard” and cracking sound at impact, but the ThruSlot technology in combination with a vibration dampening system that features a shock-absorbing badge should improve on that. Take a closer look at the irons in the photos below from the MyGolfSpy twitter account.

In addition to the classic shape and size, the SLDR irons also has a minimal amount of visible offset – it looks like a player’s iron with a thin topline and sole but are very forgiving, perfect for seasoned professionals as well as your everyday amateur. This set of irons will be offered for $899 with the new KBS Tour C-Taper 90 steel shaft or three choices of Fujikura graphite shafts and a 47.5 gram version of Golf Pride’s Tour Velvet grips. Expect to see these in stores June 6, 2014!
