Do you remember what you were doing when you were 17 years old? Or the types of accomplishments you achieved up until that age? How about earning a spot as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine, winning six professional golf events and being projected to be ranked world number 2? That is exactly what happened for Lydia Ko this past week!
Stacy Lewis and Jenny Shin threatened to challenge for the tournament, but from hole 13 onwards of the final round, Ko hit all the shots that she needed to hit in order to stay ahead, including a birdie on the 72nd hole to seal the victory at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic.
Ko won the 2012 and 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open as an amateur the last two years and took the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in December in Thailand in her second start as a professional. She has six victories in pro events, also winning in Australia and New Zealand. With her career progressing the way it is at such a young age, the future is as bright as ever for Lydia Ko and for the LPGA Tour! The youth movement in the world of golf is strong as another Korean native Seung Yul Noh, just 22 years old, won his first ever PGA Tour event at the Zurich Classic!
