Last week, we saw Taylormade Golf offer a limited edition SLDR White driver for the public – maybe it’s a new trend, but Nike Golf has also announced a limited edition driver. We first saw the red Nike VRS Covert 2.0 driver at the Nike Innovation Summit and yesterday, they announced a limited edition matte black version of the driver.
This matte black look will definitely appeal more to the traditionalist golfer rather than the hot rod red of the original driver. The driver not only features the matte black crown and sole, but also a black Tour Wrap 2G grip and a Kuro Kage Black shaft – taking stealth and “covert” to another level! The design element was inspired by the matte black college football helmets that have been popular over the years – it’s a colour that is associated with power, strength and sophistication.
“The Covert 2.0 Matte Black Edition driver offers a unique, limited-edition design combined with Nike’s high speed cavity back technology,” says Rob Arluna, Nike Golf Global Golf Club Business Director. “The matte black finish on the head provides a sleek, modern aesthetic and eliminates glare. The black grip and shaft give the driver a stealth, covert look.”
Aside from the change in paint though, the technology remains the same in this limited edition driver. High-speed cavity back technology redistributes weight to the hell and toe, allowing for increased distance and more stability across the face of the driver. Fly-brace technology ties the sole to the crown to stiffen the rear portion of the club and transfer more energy to the face at impact. A NexCOR face allows for increased ball speed and distance and FlexLoft adjustability allows golfers to customize loft and face angle positions.
Play in the now with the Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Matte Black Edition driver, available May 15 for $299 (but unfortunately, in right hand only!).
