Lee Westwood cruised to victory in Kuala Lumpur, winning the Maybank Malaysian Open by seven shots after leading the tournament wire-to-wire. This is Westwood’s first European Tour title in nearly two years and is the 41st title of his career (13th in Asia) – his last tournament win came at the 2012 Nordea Masters in Sweden.
Westwood started the final round only with a one shot lead, but that quickly built up as Westwood made a couple of birdies. As Malaysia is a tropical country, the weather can be unpredictable – there was a tropical storm and threat of lightning which suspended play for nearly four hours. Westwood would return after the weather delay to finish his round with a 4-under 68 and 18-under for the tournament at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. We were lucky to have visited Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club during our last visit to Malaysia, check out the photo of the 18th hole below!
