After a great month of golf and runner-up finishes, Matt Kuchar finally broke through for a victory in 2014. During the Valero Texas Open, Kuchar held a share of the lead with nine holes to play, but finished T4. The following week, he had a four-stroke lead going into the final round at the Shell Houston Open but lost in a playoff to Matt Jones. Kuchar was again in contention at The Masters where was tied for the lead on Sunday, but ultimately finished T5. This week, he shot a final round 64, including an incredible bunker hole out on the 72nd hole for birdie to earn his seventh career PGA Tour win at the 2014 RBC Heritage.
He overcame a four-stroke deficit to finally finish on top. He made up for that deficit with seven birdies on his first 10 holes, catching 54-hole leader Luke Donald. Kuchar finished the tournament at 11-under par and Donald had two holes to catch Kuchar to force a playoff. He wouldn’t birdie his last couple of holes though, but Donald’s game looked very sharp – the changes he’s making in his swing looks like they’re paying off and we’re hoping Luke gets back to his form that took him to number 1 in the world rankings. He shot a final round 69 to finish 10-under par to earn his fifth top-three finish in his past six appearances at the RBC Heritage.
