We are just a little more than a week until the year’s first Major Championship at Augusta but preparations are well underway for other Major Championship venues! This year’s Open Championship will be held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, where Tiger Woods won in 2006. Hoylake greenkeeper Craig Gilholm is the man responsible for the conditions of the golf course and Golfing World takes us behind the scenes with Craig as preparations continue at Royal Liverpool!
In 2006, parameters of the course were stretched with the speed of the greens ranging from 10 on the stimpmeter in the mornings to 13.5 in the afternoons. Although the club considered 2006 Open Championship a success, tweaks were made to the golf course to make it even stronger by making it more difficult for the professionals but generous for the members. That’s definitely not an easy task but have a listen with Craig as he gives us an overview of one of the great golf courses in the world and what changes we are to expect in this year’s Open Championship!
