A few years ago, Augusta made history when it invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first female members of their club! A few days ago, Chief Executive of the R&A (Royal & Ancient Golf Club), Peter Dawson, announced that a vote will take place on September 18, 2014 at St. Andrews to allow female members.
Although two thirds majority of the votes are required for the motion to pass, this is a huge step for one of the governing authorities of golf! As Peter Dawson stated, society has changed and so has sport and golf and it is important for the game to progress with these changes!
