Golf World Tour

Golf is truly a global game these days and it’s one of the main reasons that golf is returning to the Summer Olympic Games in Rio in 2016! Despite the globalization of the game, top end talent seems to spread a bit thin in some tournaments, especially on the European Tour.

The total prize money for the PGA Tour in 2013 totaled $306 million and at the current exchange rate, the prize money for the European Tour totaled only $182 million in comparison. Aside from the difference in prize money, the golfers who are not playing on the PGA Tour travels a lot more on long haul flights, with jet lag taking a toll on their bodies.

With travel and prize money being the main factors, Europe’s biggest stars such as Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter, are all based in the United States. This is certainly an issue that has pique the interest of leaders in the game of golf and CNN Living Golf speaks with them in regards to the direction and future of the game!
