Matt Every: Arnold Palmer Invitational Champion

What a day of golf we were treated to today – even without the presence of the world’s number 1 golfer and defending champion, Tiger Woods, the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational was as exciting as ever. Bay Hill really showed it’s teeth today, giving golfers a tough test on the greens.

After tying the course record with a 10-under 62 in the first round, Adam Scott followed with rounds of 68 and 71 to stay atop the leaderboard for all three rounds of the tournament. He would begin the final round with a 3-shot lead, however, he just couldn’t get the speed of the greens right all day. After a final round of 4-over 76, he finished the tournament in third place.

There were many golfers today who had their chance to get atop the leaderboard, including Keegan Bradley, who needed to birdie the 72nd hole in order to tie for the lead and force a playoff. Jason Kokrak also threatened during the tournament to post a low score. However, it was Matt Every’s day today, shooting a final round 2-under 70 for a 1 shot victory over Keegan Bradley. This was Every’s first victory in his 92nd start as a pro on the PGA Tour. This is somewhat of a home victory for Every, as he grew up about 90 minutes away in Daytona Beach and use to come to Bay Hill to watch the tournament as a kid – with this victory over the Masters champion, he earns his own spot in the Masters next month!

We’re also really glad to see Ryo Ishikawa finishing strong at T8! Another notable player who finished strong was Henrik Stenson, who finished T5. Him, Scott and Tiger Woods will battle for the number 1 ranking next month at the Masters – there is definitely some great golf coming our way this year!
