Recently, Golfing World featured Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, site of the 2014 Open Championship in a few months. Staying with a links styled golf course, Golfing World hops over to South Oregon to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, a golf course that stays true to the legacy of Scotland’s ancient links!
Situated next to the Pacific Ocean, Bandon Dunes opened its first course in 1999. In a short amount of time, it has built up a mighty reputation and now features five distinctly unique layouts along a 23 mile bluff! Most of the golf course was left to its natural setting, with the golf courses all about the coastline, sand dunes, native grasses and using the terrain and land as it was found!
Aside from hosting the first Speedgolf World Championship, the USGA are also big fans of Bandon Dunes and have showed their support by choosing Bandon Dunes to host a few tournaments, including the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links championship tournaments. With Chambers Bay, another links course in the Pacific Northwest, hosting the US Open in 2015, perhaps we should expect Bandon Dunes to be strongly considered for a Major Championship soon!
