The first team member of Mizuno’s Play Famously in 2014, Jeremy Thee, shared a wonderful story of how golf helped him overcome his challenges and push himself past his limits! The second member chosen for the 2014 Play Famously is Tony Taylor, a former Marine sergeant who also has his own story to share. Tony was on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as a part of the Rifle Squad. Fearing for their lives everyday, the Rifle Squad’s mission was to locate, close in and destroy the enemy by fire and close combat.
Depression and anxiety are common among former soldiers and since returning home, Tony is no exception to these aftereffects. Through a buddy in the Marin Corp, Tony caught the golf bug and as Tony explains, the game of golf has been therapeutic, helping him both emotionally and mentally. One can only imagine the difference between the environment on the battlefield to the serenity of the golf course. That’s why, there’s no other place that Tony would rather be than on a golf course as he aspires to have a career in golf course maintenance and a goal of becoming a superintendent!
