The 2014 Titleist Japan Vokey Cold Forged Wedges debuted at the Japan Golf Fair last month and we were really excited to learn more about them. The previous models were forged from S20C at Endo, one of Japan’s best forging houses. The 2014 Cold Forged versions are still Made in Japan, but rumor is they are no longer forged by Endo. A cold forging process helps increase consistency in manufacturing for more consistent feel and performance. This cold forging process reduces thermal contraction during the cooling process from traditional forging processes.
There are a lot of different grind and loft options available with this wedge offering, however, the grind of each loft is predetermined – no custom grinds and lofts this time. There are four grinds available in the Cold Forged Wedge: F grind, K grind, R grind, S grind – you can read more about all the different Vokey grinds here. Lofts range from 46 degrees to 62 degrees and be paired with Dynamic Gold (S200) shafts or NS PRO 950 (S) shafts.
