Tiger Woods redefined modern golf in his career, turning golf into more of a sport than ever. The new generation of young and talented golfers has looked up to his training on and off the golf course growing up and has included a focus on fitness into their routines.
This focus on fitness is most evident in Rory McIlroy. From the time he debuted on the PGA Tour until today, Rory’s body has changed considerably due to his training regime in the gym. Lifting weights to get stronger and more flexible not only helps physically through a golf tournament, but mentally as well. You can see a comparison photo that Rory put up on his twitter to show the difference working out made for him – he’s now considered one of the Top 10 Fittest players on the PGA Tour and was even featured by Men’s Health Magazine a couple years ago!
In the video above, you can see 5 exercises that Rory does in the gym to help his golf – and maybe something for us to do to help our own games! Rory goes through a routine of bench press, inside grip pull-ups, wide grip pull-ups, hanging leg raises and swiss ball pikes – perfect for strength and stability! But seems a little tame compared to the work outs of Mr. Gary Player!
