Kevin Stalder, the son of PGA Tour winner, Craig Stadler, who won the Masters in 1982, won the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title ever in his 239th start. With this win, he earns a spot in the 2014 Masters and are the ninth father-son winners in PGA Tour history. TPC Scottsdale, his home course, was the venue for the tournament where Stadler finished at 16-under par. Playing partner Bubba Watson missed a 5-foot par putt on the final hole to force a playoff. Watson would finish T2 with Canadian, Graham DeLaet who is on fire the past two tournaments he’s played in (Torrey Pines and Phoenix Open).
This isn’t Stadler’s first professional victory though. He has won in Australia for the European Tour’s 2006 Johnnie Walker Classicas well as the Argentine Open and has four Nationwide Tour wins. Other golfers that played well included Canadian Graham DeLaet who shot up the leaderboard with five back-9 birdies to finish T2 with Bubba Watson. Huter Mahan and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama finished at T4 at 14-under par.
Another exciting event during the final round was the par-3 16th hole – the loudest hole in golf. On Sunday, Phil Mickelson, in commemorating the NFL Super Bowl XLVIII, showed off his throwing arm and signed some footballs before launching them into the crowd – fun times!
