Tiger Woods is beginning his year at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He is the defending champion, having won last year at this event, and is aiming to become the first player ever to win nine times at the same golf course. He has won seven previous Farmers Insurance Opens and of course, his latest major victory, the 2008 US Open in a playoff over Rocco Mediate. Other courses where he has won eight times include Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Firestone Country Club for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Last year, his win at Torrey Pines would be the first of five victories in 2013. He also won at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Although he didn’t win a Major championship in 2013, his five victories were enough to have him voted as the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
Will Tiger make history this week and win for the 9th time at Torrey Pines? He is also chasing other historic records, aiming to break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 Major championships as well as Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA Tour Victories. The latter record is only a matter of time, though the Major championships might be a little more work to accomplish! Tiger currently has 79 PGA Tour victories and 14 Major championships.
