The golf season may be well under way on the PGA and European Tour but for many of us, we are still in the midst of winter! Although Spring is around the corner, we are reminded by the Polar Vortex that we are not out of Winter yet, especially for those in Northeastern North America! However, that doesn’t stop golf from being played, even in the most extreme Winter conditions!
You may remember Martin Kaymer and 2012 DTM Champion, Bruno Spengler honing their golf games in the Alps of Stubai in Austria. Although that was some of BMW’s marketing at its best, you may now play your very own snow golf 250 kilometers to the north of the Arctic Circle at Björkliden, a ski resort in Swedish Lapland!
With temperatures from zero degrees Celsius to as low as -25, playing conditions are extreme but for 350 Swedish Krona (around $50 USD) for a round, which includes club hire and balls, it’s definitely an experience you won’t forget! With glowing golf balls, night golf in the snow is also available and if the timing is right, you may play golf with Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights in the backdrop! Unfortunately, the golf course in Björkliden is only open for three weeks in March but consider Snow Golf in Björkliden on our bucket list!
