Taylormade Tour Preferred Irons

Taylormade Golf has announced several new products over the last couple of months, including the SpeedBlade irons and JetSpeed line of equipment. The biggest buzz around Taylormade lately though is their announcement of Tour Preferred equipment.

We’ve already seen the SLDR 430 Tour Preferred from Taylormade Japan as well as the SLDR 430 for North America and got a preview of the Tour Preferred MB, MC and CB irons. Taylormade officially announced the Tour Preferred MB, MC and CB irons today though and below, you can see the reactions from some of their Touring staff include 2013 US Open Champion, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson (who’s currently using the MB’s at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and atop the leaderboard), Martin Laird and more – take a look at the videos below!

The three new irons are aimed at the better player and mix the speed pocket technology with more compact head shapes and softer metals. Not all irons feature the speed pocket technology though – with the CB and MC set, only the mid-long irons feature the technology, which is then phased out in the shorter, scoring irons. The MB set does not feature the speed pocket technology. All three irons, which come standard with KBS Tour steel shafts, will be available starting today!

The Tour Preferred CB (Cavity Back) is the largest of the three irons and features a 17-4 stainless steel cast construction for the 3-iron through 6-iron and a softer, 431 stainless steel cast construction for the 7-iron through A-wedge. The speed pocket is used in the sole of the 3-iron through 7-iron and is designed to increase the way the face flexes at impact while also creating a higher launch angle. The CB’s have the strongest lofts (28.5 degree 6-iron) and will retail for $900.

The Tour Preferred MC (Muscle Cavity) also utilizes the speed pocket technology from 3-iron through 7-iron and features a 431 stainless steel cast steel in the long and middle irons. The short irons, however, are forged from 1025 carbon steel to provide an even softer feel with milled grooves to enhance spin on shots from the rough. A set of MC irons will cost roughly $1,000.

Lastly, the Tour Preferred MB (Muscle Back) does not feature the speed pocket in any of the soles but instead utilizes a precise 1025 carbon steel forged construction through the set and is the most traditional blade offering by Taylormade. In all the Tour Preferred irons, sound and structure is optimized for improved feel. Precision controlled shaping on every part of the clubhead also ensures maximum accuracy and consistency of shaping, including sole curvature. Milled grooves also promote more spin and control from the rough.
