Today is the last day of 2013 and reflecting back on the year, there were many young stars and phenoms that broke out this past year! Having celebrated his 38th birthday yesterday, Tiger Woods arguably single-handedly redefined modern golf, leading to a robust growth in the game, especially in China. It is because of this growth that 14 year old sensation Guan TianLang appeared in the 2013 Masters at Augusta and even made the cut!
In addition to Guan TianLang, other young phenoms are starting to make a name for themselves in both the men’s and women’s game. Thorbjorn Olesen had a breakout year, breaking into the world’s top 50 ranking and finishing strong in a few notable tournaments while Italian Matteo Manassero continues his strong play as well! On the women’s side, Lydia Ko made a splash as she turned professional this past year after winning twice on the LPGA Tour as an amateur. And perhaps a story that flew under the radar is 16 year old Charley Hull, who played in her first professional tournament in March and became a Solheim Cup star in August!
2014 should be another exciting year of golf and PGA.com has released their list of top 10 players to watch! Whether they are young stars who are on the verge of stardom or seasoned vets who are on the brink of winning their first Major championship or adding to their resume, we can’t wait to see what unfolds!
