The year 2013 is coming to an end and it has seen plenty of news in regards to golf carts, including Bubba Watson’s hovercraft! Although the hovercraft tops the list, the Tumblr golf cart is probably not far behind and of course, there are the more “normal” golf carts such as Michael Jordan’s golf cart and the Mercedes-Benz designed Vision golf cart. However, we may have a new golf cart that may be able to top the list!
Recently, Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and Future Urban Mobility Interdisciplinary Research Group (FM IRG) showcased its driverless golf cart. Using a combination of an onboard computer and laser sensors, the golf cart has a field vision of 270 degrees. The main goal of SMART and FM IRG is to “create a fleet of autonomous vehicles that would reduce overall commuting time” but before this technology makes it onto our roads, perhaps we’ll be seeing this technology on our golf course!
