Taylormade Tour Preferred

We’ve seen subtle hints at Taylormade Golf bringing back their Tour Preferred line of equipment over the past couple of weeks. We’ve seen it on the side of Dustin Johnson’s hat in the JetSpeed equipment commercial and even in teaser photos released by Taylormade themselves. However, although they may be still relatively unknown in North America, the Tour Preferred line of irons has already been uploaded onto the Taylormade Japan website – the Tour Preferred line will include CB, MC and MB iron sets. Justin Rose has already put a combo set of these new irons in play at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa this week as well!

Like the Speedblade irons, the Tour Preferred line of irons will also feature the speed pocket technology. The speed pocket is a deep slot behind the clubface that allows the face to flex and rebound faster therefore, increasing your ball speed and launch angle to boost your distances. The CB irons are traditionally shaped cavity backed irons with the speed pocket in the sole. They have a stainless steel construction that provides a soft feel at impact. The CB irons will be offered with Dynamic Gold shafts or KBS TOUR C-Taper95 shafts and TM tour velvet 60R grips.

The MC irons also takes advantage of Taylormade’s speed pocket technology. The long and middle irons are made by a stainless steel cast (431SS) whereas the shorter irons (8 – PW) are forged (S25C). The pros say that the MC irons have a very soft feel and with the help of the speed pocket, distance and dispersion control is more consistent. The MC irons are similar to muscle backed irons and have very compact club heads. They will also be offered with Dynamic Gold shafts or KBS TOUR C-Taper95 shafts and TM tour velvet 60R grips.

Finally, the MB irons are the ultimate in players irons. This is a forged line of irons (S25C) from the 3-iron to the Pitching Wedge. The compact shape of the club head combined with the minimal offset makes this a great players iron and allows players to really work the ball in different directions. You’ll notice though, that the MB line does not take advantage of the speed pocket technology. The MB irons will only be offered with Dynamic Gold shafts and TM tour velvet 60R grips.

We’ll have more information on the Taylormade Tour Preferred CB, MC and MB irons soon – the information on this post is what we’ve gathered from the Taylormade Japan website and will be offered for the Japanese market. Specs for the North American market may differ. From the Taylormade Japan website, the Tour Preferred CB and MC irons should be available sometime in December 2013, whereas the MB irons will make their debut in February 2014. Make sure to browse it as well and if you speak fluent Japanese, let us know if we’ve missed something in the comments below!
