After spending some time in Las Vegas with Nike Golf and their Innovation Summit, Rory McIlroy is teeing it up in Sydney this week at Royal Sydney for the Emirates Australian Open and talks about golf, Sydney and the Anchorman 2 Australian premiere in the interview above! This will mark the first time Rory has played in the Australian Open since 2007 – in his last Australian Open appearance, he finished T59 after scores of 74-74-76-77 during his first year as a professional. He has been to Sydney since then though. Earlier this year, He was in town atop the Sydney Tower with girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki while she competed in the Sydney International.
On his way to Sydney though, Rory met Will Ferrell on his flight, heading Down Under for the premiere of Anchorman 2, and got himself invited to the film’s premiere! Australian Golf has been nearly unstoppable the past 3 weeks, with Adam Scott winning the Australian PGA Championship, the Australian Masters and Team Australia (Jason Day and Adam Scott) winning the World Cup of Golf for the individual and team scores.
Rory will have his work cut out for him, but he is currently World Number 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking and is coming off consecutive top-10s, a T6 at the WGC-HSBC Champions and DP World Tour Championship-Dubai. This is the first time he’s had back-to-back top-10 finishes since the Wells Fargo Championship (T10) and The Players Championship (T8) in May. He’ll be heading to Tiger Woods’ World Challenge after this week from December 5 – 8 at the Sherwood Country Club.
