The WGC-HSBC Champions took place this past weekend in Shanghai, China and what a tournament we were treated to! The leaderboard was very packed on the final day, with Dustin Johnson holding the lead going into the final round. Despite a slow start and giving up the lead, Dustin Johnson came out on top, starting the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season like he did last year by winning in his first event! Johnson shot 69-63-66-66 to finish at a total of 24-under par for “the biggest win of his career so far.” Defending champion Ian Poulter, who spent time discovering the culture and city of Shanghai before the start of the tournament, finished at 21-under par.
The victory at WGC-HSBC Champions is Dustin’s eight career win and with this victory, he became the first player since Tiger Woods to win in seven consecutive seasons straight out of college! Only Phil Mickelson, with ten consecutive years of winning at least once, has a longer active winning streak! That’s quite the feat, to be compared to two of the best players in the game of golf. Perhaps, we will see Dustin win a Major Championship in 2014!
