Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are on the island of Hainan today, competing at The Match at Mission Hills Haikou’s Blackstone course. We’ve already seen one Match this year, between Graeme McDowell and Graham DeLaet at Cabot Links Golf Club in Nova Scotia. But The Match at Mission Hills is probably the more high profile of the two, as it’s also a rematch between Tiger and Rory!
At the Blackstone Course, there are a total of 12 golf courses (10 of which was designed by Schmidt-Curley Design) on 350 acres of land weaving through the striking landscape of mature trees, thick jungle vegetation, expansive lakes and wetlands and of course, the bed of lava rock! The naturally rolling terrain sees dramatic elevation changes on the golf course to keep all the golf courses are natural as possible.
The lava rock base on which the courses are built has been incorporated as an integral element of the design, which gives the golf courses a wild, exotic look and creates contrast against the green fairways and trees. Take a look at the video above at the golf course and all the other amenities that the Mission Hills Haikou Resort has to offer!
