E:60 is a weekly show from ESPN that specializes in investigative journalism. The stories from E:60 focuses both on North American sports as well as International sports, such as the Mumbai Masters that we featured before on EighteenUnderPar! In a recent E:60 episode, ESPN looked into NFL’s New York Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin and his involvement in the Jay Fund Celebrity Golf Tournament!
This history of this golf tournament dates back to Tom Coughlin’s coaching days in Boston College when one of his players, Jay McGillis, was diagnosed with leukemia. This unfortunate experience affected Tom Coughlin greatly and inspired him to start a foundation in honor of Jay McGillis. The mission statement of the Jay Fund Foundation is to assist “children with leukemia and other cancers and their families by providing emotional and financial support to help reduce the stress associated with treatment and improve their quality of life.” The fund has endured much success and as a result, it enables the fund to expand its outreach to families of children with any form of pediatric cancer. This is definitely a great cause but with the first annual Jay Fund Foundation golf tournament held in May 1996, shouldn’t Tom Coughlin’s golf game be a bit better? Take a look at E:60’s Extra where they filmed Tom Coughlin, along with Giant’s QB Eli Manning, at the famous 17th hole of TPC Sawgrass during the tournament!
