Henrik Stenson has been one of the most consistent players in golf over the second half of the season. He had a number of close calls at The Open (finished 2nd), the PGA Championship (finished 3rd) and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (T2) this season. Entering the last event for the FedEx Cup and the $10 million bonus, Henrik Stenson was ranked second going into the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, although he won the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston. Henrik has fought hard throughout his career though, at one point dropping to World Number 621 from 73 during the beginning of his career. Ten years later, he found himself ranked 4th in the world after his win at The Players Championship before dropping to 230th in the world and fighting his way back to where he is now.
Stenson has continued his consistent play into the Tour Championship and took a commanding 4-shot lead into the final round of Dustin Johnson. Despite strong rounds from Steve Stricker and Jordan Spieth, it was not enough to overcome the strong play from Stenson all week, with Henrik shooting a 2-under 68 in the final round! Congratulations to Henrik for winning the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup! With this dual victory, Henrik Stenson takes home a total of $11.44 million, or about $2 million more than Nicklaus, Palmer and Player made in their careers.
