BMW Championship: Rounds 1 to 3

Tiger Woods at the BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club

The 2013 BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club has been a great tournament to watch over the past 3 days. The first day saw some of the world’s best players rise to the top of the leaderboard, including Brandt Snedeker and Tiger Woods, who shot a 5-under 66 and was actually upset at his score! The second round was much more exciting though. As you may have heard, there was a historic score shot on Friday of the Championship. Jim Furyk had one of the rounds of his life, having 11 birdies, 1 eagle (and 1 bogey) and 23 putts while hitting 100% of the fairways and 94% of greens in regulation! This would give me a final round score of 59! And makes Furyk only the 6th player in PGA TOUR history to have broken 60! Take a look at the highlights from his round below and the photos – great to see him and Fluff sharing this moment as it really shows the relationship and importance of a caddie!

Another headline from the second round though involved Tiger Woods and another penalty drop. Right from his first hole of the day, he didn’t play very well and after his second shot landed in the bushes, he was removing some loose impediments from around his ball when it “oscillated in place,” as he put it. Take a look at the video below and let us know if you think the ball moved or not! Tiger was assessed a 2-shot penalty stroke and instead of shooting a +2 for the hole, he ended up with a +4, and finished the day at 1-over par after the penalty.

Tiger was very adamant that the ball did not move, but simply “oscillated in place” – he was “pretty hot” after the penalty was assessed on his round, so today, he channeled that energy and shot a third round score of 5-under 66, vaulting him up the leaderboard and finishing the day at a total score of 9-under par for 5th place in the tournament. He will be paired with Charl Schwartzel tomorrow. There were some very low scores today, including a 61 by Matt Kuchar, but the leader at the top is still Jim Furyk at 13-under par. Another highlight from the third round of the BMW Championship was this Hole-In-One by Hunter Mahan on the par-3, 210 yard 17th hole! This Hole-In-One helped Mahan to a round of 7-under par and allows him to take home the brand new BMW i3 (hopefully not the one Rory McIlroy and Gary Woodland were racing with!). Also, BMW will donate $100,000 to the Evans Scholars Foundation! Take a look at the ace below – tomorrow should be an awesome final round of golf at the BMW Championship!
