In the world of golf, Tour professionals play for themselves week in and week out. However, every so often, we are treated to the Ryder Cup or the President’s Cup! It is refreshing to see Tour professionals play in a team event. Who could forget the unbelievable finish at Medinah Country Club for the 2012 Ryder Cup? And with the globalization of golf, it has led to more events, such as the President’s Cup. The 10th President’s Cup will be held this year, commencing on October 3 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio and the globalization of the game of golf has continued with the announcement of the EurAsia Cup!
As we have featured, the growth of golf in China is growing at a rapid pace, producing phenoms such as Guan TianLang and Ye WoCheng. It is undeniable that golf has grown in other parts of Asia as well and in recognition of this, a similar event to the Ryder Cup, the EurAsia Cup, will have its inaugural event in March 2014 at Malaysia’s Glenmarie Golf and Country Club!
Both teams will consist of 10 team members. The European team will be based on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings, the leading four available players from the world rankings and two captain’s picks. Team Asia will consist of the four top players from the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit, the four available leading Asian players from the world rankings and two captain’s picks will make up the Asian team. Although the captains of each team has not been named yet, the European Tour states that the event “will be beamed live to more than 45 countries and 670 million homes!” That’s good news for golf fans everywhere as we get to enjoy another team golf tournament!
