Luke Donald’s fondness of wine is no secret. In an interview with Michigan Avenue Magazine, Luke touched on his passion for food and wine, and we have featured his wine collection on EighteenUnderPar as well! Aside from Luke, many other golfers, including Ernie Els, have business ventures in golf. But in the September issue of Forbes Magazine, Forbes sat down with Luke and his root for his passion in wine is explored!
Luke Donald grew up in England and with his father a part of the local wine society, Luke often watched his parents sip Bordeaux. This groomed his passion for fine wine and through a shared golf coach in college, Luke met second generation CEO, Bill Terlato, who eventually partnered up with him to start the Luke Donald collection of wine! Unlike many other celebrity entrepreneurs, Luke took on a hands-on approach and was involved in many processes, including the design of the modern, modular label, sourcing the grapes and even blending the juice! As Luke said, he wanted the wine to be his style, contemporary-European!
Luke’s wine label will appear on 72,000 bottles of California chardonnay, viognier and not forgetting where his passion was born, a “Bordeaux-style red blend that carries the classic British description claret” as well! Have a read of the article on Forbes! It seems just as Martin Kaymer may have a career in modeling post golf, Luke’s passion for wine may springboard his second career when he decides to retire from professional golf!
