And with summer coming to an end soon, we’re preparing ourselves mentally for season’s end. But our dedication to the game doesn’t stop during the off season and neither does the dedication for golfers all around the world. From courses in the middle of the desert to sub-zero ice golf championships, here are some of the world’s most climatically challenging golf courses and experiences.
Uummannaq, Greenland (above) sees temperatures fall to negative 50 degrees, but it’s also home to the World Ice Golf championship since 1997. This course is located 600 miles north of the Arctic Circle and possesses some of the most extreme sporting conditions – you’ll be seeing glaciers and icebergs during your round for sure! Players will have to wear snow boots and jackets and probably play a more colorful golf ball too! Think you could handle playing in the coldest golf course in the world?
One of the hottest places to play golf is at Alice Springs Golf Club, situated deep in Australia’s heartland 200 miles from Ayers Rock. Temperatures regularly rise ABOVE 50 degrees! It’s so hot that local highway authorities have to monitor road conditions to see which ones are melting. It’s amazing the irrigation they were able to get to this part of the country and to get this amount of greenery in the desert! Definitely the polar opposite of playing a round of golf in Uummannaq, Greenland. Where would you prefer to play?!
