Putting is an important part of the game of golf and Tour players spent countless hours on the practice green, perfecting their art! So far this season, Tiger Woods’ putting has been up and down. His putting was probably the main factor that hurt his chances at the Open Championship at Muirfield however, it was also his putting that enabled him to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by seven strokes last week!
Before his final round at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, CBS Sports filmed Tiger going through a drill on the practice green. In this drill, Tiger putts with only his right hand from approximately 6 feet and through a “gate” made with two tees pegged to the ground. As Sir Nick Faldo said, this helps the right hand release and it also helps Tiger find the bottom of the arc in his putting stroke! From the video, it seems Tiger was definitely feeling it before his final round last Sunday!
Last week, Tiger said the greens were spotty at Oak Hill Country Club, the venue for this week’s PGA Championship. However, the greens seems to be up to speed now and from his press conference at Oak Hill (18 min mark), Tiger absolutely agrees with Craig Harmon (PGA Head Professional at Oak Hill Country Club) that there are a lot of subtleties to the greens, with numerous ridges and waves. We hope Tiger is practicing hard with his putting drills this week as well to combat those tricky greens! He’s definitely not the only one working on putting drills. Take a look at what Luke Donald tweeted below! Amazing! And don’t try this at home?
