The last two Major Championships (US Open and the Open Championship) were held at venues that exudes an enormous amount of history. Both Harry Vardon and Ted Ray came from working class families and went on to win multiple Major Championships! Harry Vardon, arguable the game’s first superstar, won an unmatched six Open Championships, with his first Open Championship coming at Muirfield in 1896. Ted Ray also won his Open Championship at Muirfield in 1912, with Harry Vardon finishing runner-up, four strokes behind. What makes their stories more amazing is that both of them not only comes from the British Island of Jersey but the same remote part of the island in Grouville!
