This year has certainly has its fair of young phenoms making their mark in the golf world! Actually, it all started in the summer of 2012 with Lydia Ko winning the CN Canadian Women’s Open to become the youngest ever to win an LPGA Tour event at 15 years old! In the spring of 2013, Guan Tianlang made his Masters debut at the age of 14 while a 12 year old would later make his debut on the European Tour! A 9 year old would also shoot a score of 58 at a junior tournament in 2013 and now, a Cincinnati teen has shot a score of 59 at the 35th North & South Junior Amateur!
The North and South Junior Amateur tournament was played at Pinehurst No. 1, which played at 6,089 yards on Wednesday. After shooting an opening round of 74, Will Grimmer of Cincinnati would have the round of his life, shooting a round of 11-under 59! Don’t mistaken this for luck though as Will won a U.S. Junior qualifier, the Ohio Junior Championship and a Junior PGA sectional qualifier in the span of a week in June! This is quite the span of golf for the 16 year old. We tend to agree with Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman, seems like if your kid is not breaking 70 by age 10, he or she is behind the learning curve!
Teen shoots 59 on 6,000+ yd Pinehurst #1. If your kid's not breaking 70 by age 10, forget about it! http://t.co/HXBcDfx9gh
